Subject: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS PROCLAIMS MONTH OF MAY 2001 AS
GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER AWARENESS MONTH

AT ITS MEETING TODAY THE NAPA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS PRESENTED A PROCLAMATION TO AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER DAVE WHITMER DECLARING MAY 2001 AS GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER AWARENESS MONTH. THE BOARD ENCOURAGES ALL RESIDENTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY TO LEARN HOW THEY CAN HELP KEEP THE COUNTY FREE OF THE GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER (GWSS). PREVENTION IS THE #1 GOAL OF THE BATTLE AGAINST THE SHARPSHOOTER AND EARLY DETECTION OF THE BUG IS THE #2 GOAL.
DURING GWSS AWARENESS MONTH THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES ARE PLANNED NOT ONLY TO INFORM THE RESIDENTS OF NAPA COUNTY ABOUT THE INSECT, BUT ALSO TO GET THEM INVOLVED IN STOPPING THE SPREAD OF IT.

Log on to www.bugspot.org to learn the latest about the GWSS and how you can help in the battle to prevent it from coming to the Napa Valley.
Call 1-866-BUG-SPOT if you have time to volunteer to help let people know about it.
Check programming on Channel 28 to view videos about the threat of the GWSS.
Pick up brochures and posters, which will be available at public facilities throughout the Napa Valley. Take them to your business or home so that others can learn about the bug.
