Procedures for dealing with the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter

If you tell us we cannot come out and look for other signs of GWSS on your property, we will not force our way onto your property. We would ask for more details about what you found and where you found it. For example, if egg masses had been found, it may be possible to just clip the foliage or remove the plant from the area.

If the plant had just been planted a day or so before, nothing else may need to be done, other than removing the foliage and egg mass. If the plant had been there for a while, you have a greater risk that other insects are present.

We would ask neighbors for permission to look around their yards to see if GWSS was present.

If different life stages were found and we believe it is critical to comply with the State of California's requirements to inspect the area, we may go before a Judge to make the decision of whether we can be given judicial permission to look around your property for other signs of the GWSS or treat. If time allows you can appeal to the Board of Supervisors.

If necessary, state law requires that we "quarantine" an area that is suspected of GWSS. This just means that plant material cannot be moved from the yard.
