In order to be certified compliant by the County Agricultural Commissioner,
local businesses such as nurseries and landscapers allow ALL incoming
potential host plant material to be inspected by the County's team of
experts. When new shipment arrives, the business tags the stock for
inspection, and notifies the County. The County will either release
the material or send out a team within 48 hours.
The following
types of stock DO NOT require inspection:
1. Greenhouse
grown plants from non-infested areas.
2. Leafless, dormant plants
3. Buds, bulbs, corms, cut flowers, cut foliage, pips, seeds, stolons,
and tubers
4. Stock from nurseries located within the Bay Area Counties of Alameda,
Contra Costa, Marin, Sonoma, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco
that exclusively produce and ship bedding plants, color, or vegetable
starts, and are within a GWSS uninfested area.
Businesses who
demonstrate compliance with this program are given a certificate of
compliance by the County Agricultural Commissioner, and materials
to distribute to their employees and customers. Certificates are marked
with the Sharpshooter Spotter seal above and the seal of the Napa
County Agricultural Commissioner. All employees are also trained to
understand the impact of the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter and share
this information with customers.
